Crew Captains

Crew Captains are student leaders who play an elevated role on the Welcome Crew. Crew Captains are hired in the spring semester and will work 10 hours/week assisting with the following:

  • Planning and implementing Welcome Programs:
    • Attending Welcome Programs Planning Committee meetings on a recurring basis
    • Lending a student perspective and voice to critical Welcome Programs decisions, including but not limited to the schedule of events
    • Assisting with peer-to-peer outreach for student involvement in Welcome Programs
    • Leaving your stamp on Welcome Programs
  • Assisting in the supervision of the Check-in Crew:
    • Recruiting and selecting members of the Check-in Crew
    • Developing materials and co-facilitating Welcome Crew training
    • Maintaining a presence of student leadership at all NSO Check-ins
    • Develop supervision skills as an elevated figure of the Welcome Crew

Commitment and Compensation

Part of the responsibility of the Crew Captains is the time commitment required for this role. Below is a breakdown of the time commitment required for Crew Captains. Crew Captains will earn $13/hour.

  • Spring Semester: 10 hours/week beginning on the date of hire through Friday, May 5, 2023
  • Welcome Crew Training: All day beginning on Tuesday, May 16, 2023
  • New Student Orientation: 15 hours/week from Monday, May 22-Sunday, August 20, 2023
    • An NSO hiatus is scheduled from Saturday, July 22-Saturday, August 12, 2023 during which there will be no NSO Check-in responsibilities. A reduced schedule will be agreed upon between the Crew Captains and their supervisor during this time.
    • This time will be split between NSO Check-in responsibilities and preparing for Summer Welcome and Fall Welcome
  • Welcome Programs: Additional hours during Summer Welcome and Fall Welcome
    • Summer Welcome: Sunday, June 25-Friday, June 30, 2023
    • Fall Welcome: Tuesday, August 15-Saturday, August 26, 2023

Other Commitments

Crew Captains are free to hold other jobs over the course of the spring semester and throughout the summer, so long as they are able to fulfill their obligations and any additional jobs do not conflict with the time commitments and responsibilities as laid out above. If you hold another on-campus job(s), please be aware of the following restrictions:

  • Total weekly hours worked during the semester cannot exceed 20 hours
  • Total weekly hours worked during the summer cannot exceed 40 hours
