Check-in Crew

The Check-in Crew works approximately 12-15 hours/week, Sunday-Thursday, throughout summer 2023 to assist with NSO Check-in. During this time, the Welcome Crew will have the opportunity to:

  • Welcome all new students and their guests to New Student Orientation
  • Work cooperatively with the rest of the Orientation Team, the NSO Director Team, and other student and professional staff at the University
  • Gain excellent public speaking and customer service experience
  • Learn about campus-wide resources and events for you to take advantage of

Commitment and Compensation

New Student Orientation lasts approximately 12 weeks over the course of the summer, beginning at the end of May and ending just before the start of the fall semester. During that time, the Check-in Crew will be expected to work Sunday-Thursday according to the following schedule. The Check-in Crew will earn $12/hour.

  • Welcome Crew Training: All day beginning on Tuesday, May 16, 2023
  • New Student Orientation: 12 hours/week from Monday, May 22-Sunday, August 20, 2023
    • The Welcome Crew will work on a Sunday-Thursday schedule from approximately 11:15 a.m.-1:45 p.m. There are no NSO responsibilities on Fridays or Saturdays for the Check-in Crew.
    • An NSO hiatus is scheduled from Saturday, July 22-Monday, August 14, 2023 during which there will be no NSO Check-in responsibilities.
  • Welcome Programs: Additional hours during Summer Welcome and Fall Welcome
    • Summer Welcome: Sunday, June 25-Friday, June 30, 2023
    • Fall Welcome: Tuesday, August 15-Saturday, August 26, 2023

Other Commitments

Members of the Check-in Crew are free to hold other jobs throughout the summer, so long as they are able to fulfill their Check-in Crew obligations and do not conflict with the time commitments and responsibilities laid out above. If you hold another on-campus job, the total weekly hours worked cannot exceed 40 hours.

The application will go live on Monday, March 20. Please fill out the Welcome Crew Interest Form so we can alert you when the application goes live! Once you’ve submitted your application materials, a member of our team will reach out to you via your Penn State email address to schedule you for one of our group interviews.
