Student Program Specialists are full-time, undergraduate students at University Park who coordinate orientation program logistics throughout the New Student Orientation (NSO) program.
As a Student Program Specialist, staff members are expected to:
- Facilitate program check-in for over 200 student participants daily;
- Provide support to academic consultants;
- Supervise part-time student staff, including scheduling responsibilities, and organizing weekly staff meetings;
- Assist Student Orientation & Transition Programs with daily office tasks;
- Handle confidential student records with responsibility and care;
- Have an opportunity to present to NSO participants on life at University Park and the importance of involvement and engagement in the Penn State community;
- Respond to questions from students and families about university life using personal experiences in a professional manner; and
- Engage in self-evaluation and reflection to develop a personal growth plan.
Student Program Specialists must be flexible & patient, as NSO is a demanding and fast-paced working environment. Student Program Specialists are expected to actively engage with students and families while providing a welcoming environment for all new Penn Staters.
